Your 7-Night Settle-In Plan

A simple, patient week to help your dog fall in love with their new den.

Most dogs don’t claim a new bed the second it hits the floor — and that’s completely normal. A bed has to smell right, sit in the right spot, and feel like theirs before a dog truly relaxes into it. Follow this for one week and you’ll give your dog every chance to make their SnugDen their favorite place in the house.

Night1

Make it smell like home

Place an unwashed t-shirt you’ve worn, or your dog’s current blanket, inside the SnugDen. Your scent (and their own) tells them this is safe. Don’t wash the bed before first use — let it pick up the smells of home.

Night2

Put it where they already love to be

Set the bed in the spot your dog already chooses to rest — next to your bed, by the couch, in their usual corner. Don’t move it somewhere new and expect them to follow. Bring the bed to their world first.

Night3

Make it rewarding

Drop a favorite treat or chew inside the rim. Praise them warmly any time they step in, sniff, or lie down — even for a second. Never force them in; let it be their choice. Good things happen in the den.

Night4

Build the routine

Guide them to the bed at the same calm moments each day — after the evening walk, at bedtime, during wind-down. Dogs settle faster when the bed becomes part of a predictable rhythm.

Night5

Make it the calm zone

When your dog is already relaxed, gently encourage them to settle in the SnugDen. Keep it a low-key, peaceful place — not where rowdy play or stressful events happen. The den should mean “switch off.”

Night6

Be patient with the shy ones

Rescue, senior, and naturally anxious dogs can take a little longer — that’s okay. Keep the scent fresh, keep the spot consistent, keep rewarding. Progress often looks like “sat near it,” then “sat in it,” then “slept in it.”

Night7

Let it become theirs

By now most dogs are choosing the bed on their own. Keep it in its spot, keep it cozy, and let it be the one place that’s theirs. When it needs a wash, do it in stages if you can, so it never loses that familiar, comforting feel all at once.
